Cap looks like a convincing POW or field-made example to me. If the insignia are reproduction then obviously the whole thing comes into question - but I like it far more than I don't.

For me, I don't care for the insignia &/or the hat's overall profile/shape, which is more akin to an Army M34/M38 model save for the non-scalloped sides that are the correct Luft/SS/KM style for such a hat, and I also don't care for the sweatband because it mirrors the type I've seen on German reproductions presently offered on eBay.

Agree on all this. The insignia is not period, so if the cap is genuine (which I also doubt), someone has added the insignia post war. The stitching used to apply the insignia, and this insignia itself, does not reflect the wear of the rest of the cap.
