Luftwaffe DAK cap & Soldbuch

Hello all,

I wanted to post this cap I recently picked up. Is this a foreign produced example? It is very different in construction compared to the Berolina cap I have here and is much more lightweight. If you look at the sides of the caps, it almost looks like it had some pins attached to it, much like a hate-belt would have. Can anyone tell from the profile what the pins were if that's what I'm looking at? I don't know the history of this cap, though it did come with the Soldbuch of the soldier it supposedly belonged to, I have no reason to dispute this. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The Soldbuch looks good IMO.
A typical soldbuch for a DAK May 1943 POW (page 3/4 removed).
Although the unit page is removed, it looks like he was with 4th Company of schwere Flak-Abteilung 372 (o).

Can it be that the veteran who took this cap home could've pinned several souvenirs/captured badges he took from Germans to the cap as a kind of trophy?
This happened more often.

I cannot recall when/ which forum this item was discussed (if it was even discussed?), so perhaps a search could yield an answer to your question, either by narrowing the search to "Luftwaffe Tropical Hat" &/or by focusing upon the vendor/source from where you oobtained this grouping.

For me, I don't care for the insignia &/or the hat's overall profile/shape, which is more akin to an Army M34/M38 model save for the non-scalloped sides that are the correct Luft/SS/KM style for such a hat, and I also don't care for the sweatband because it mirrors the type I've seen on German reproductions presently offered on eBay.

Of Course this is just my opinion, so I urge you to await review/ comment by others; in the meantime, I'd check on the composition of the thread that is used to construct the hat by performing the 'Burn Test' and a 'Blacklight Test', and I would also evaluate the insignia against known originals.
