    cap

Looks like a farmer's cap post-war. Definitely not military.

I agree, the wool material looks like Feldgrau 44.

I don't even think it's late war wool, the weave doesn't looke like on Feldgrau 44 fabric and it's way too 'hairy'. Post-war for sure.

Late war original wool . With private made caps it is hard to say if it's pre or post 45 ?
Such a cap cut does exist for civilian ski caps actually but can be seen
              in the WSS also ?

Pre war, period or post war, civilian or military, this is the kind of cap which perfectly fits on a POW display ! They had to pick items here and there to survive...

Had one like this years ago...had the last ditch embroidered trapezoid hand sewn...looked like period wear and insignia was seared into cap...35 plus years ago..thought and still think it had a good chance of being wartime last ditch volkstorm etc..

It could even be of WW2-vintage and well preserved but IMO it's a civvy cap!

Most likely post war period civilian.
