A friend of mine struck Veteran family gold of US and German items from one family at a yard sale. I didn't get to buy all of what he found (so far), but got enough of it to make me happy.
Upon inspection, I noticed the panzer cap has two holes diagonal from the cockade (so I knew it wasn't moths). I looked inside the flap and sure enough, a tiny bit of the original pink soutache was there. (See photo below)
Both Luft cap and Panzer cap have no maker marks visible. They both show moderate wear, but except for the cockade is pulled away a bit from the Luft cap are in sound shape.
Interesting on the helmet right split pin was field replaced and pounded and shaped into place like a real rivet. The liner has never been out. The rear pin is tight as a drum in original factory fold.
