Hat itself is a good one--the maker is H. Schade of Kassel, and he sold under the " Kasseler Mutzenfabrik" name--his firm was located at Koelnische Strasse 33/35 .


As far as the skull, their is some controversy over these ones that lack a septum (the line in the nose), but imo, there are authentic examples out there.

The question is whether this is a true IR17 visor, or whether the insignia was added after the war (but I like the fact that the skull does not appear to be squeezed in as on most examples).

That may be, but I do not see any signs of age yellowing.
You also may want to check the rank list for IR17 to see if this officer even existed.
