M43 field cap with folded metal eagle

    Hi guys,

I recently bought this photo and was intrigued by the metal eagle on the M43 field cap: its wings seem to be folded.

Does anyone has a theory about that? Was it something done to give a specific shape/look to the cap ?

    Thanks

    Best,

    Max

It looks to be a Bergmutze..He gave it a pinched look by adding a few threads or a safety pin on the inside and added a visor eagle.

      eagle

It is also not so uncommon to see a metal eagle added to a M-43 cap without the pinched look. Even generals sometimes did this, General Bayerlein being an example.

Indeed,I have seen many period photos of soldiers doing this.
