Not a ski cap, the visor is too long. Is the color police green or more field grey? Let's see a photo of the inside.

I agree! Might be Gemeinde polizei (civil) gendarme. They had wore cloth cap insignia but also metal cap insignia in case there are no traces of cloth insignia.
Post it in the polizei section!

It is the correct color and style for a Postschutz cap.
