    Osttruppen style M43 cap

    I've always wondered about this image...Modified M43?
The visor is a typical Russian Spade shape...

Than I came across these images (from Kriegsberichter web site as tagged) of Russians who were being awarded for their service by Germans...
    (Eastern Peoples medal)

So Russian manufactured like that perhaps?
or the visor was damaged and replaced like that with a Russian spade type?

        Compare!

If it's an official Ostrtruppen variant M43 cap (???), any surviving examples out there?
But why would they make one with a Russian shaped bill I wonder?
        A local contract?

Possibly an M-42 with custom (Soviet influenced) bill attached.

I had not thought of that as a possibility...yes it is possible and a ventilation grommet would have been present!
Not shown here because of the angle...Too bad!
Yes that could be what is going on here!

Surely a private modification in the russian style !
Never seen before and interesting !
Ostvölker were given a lot of unmodified M42 side caps .
