    Officer chincord slides magnetic?

Someone recently asked me recently if the inner core of chin cord slides should be magnetic. I did not know but tried a magnet on about half a dozen caps and none reacted. Any thoughts on this?

I have always been taught that zinc was used for slides - and therefore, would not be magnetic.

I don't doubt steel would be a possibility, but have not seen this myself. In this day and age of instant information, anything has become plausible . . . fake or not.

I agree with NC--usually they are zinc. Sometimes aluminum or leather.
Postwar ones are stiffer, and usually have plastic (plus they usually glow under UV).
