Fire Brigade Cap

Hi All
I would welcome opinions on this cap. It appears to have been well used with staining on the inside, the badge seems to have been put on professionally with the lugs not coming through to the inside. I was pretty sure that this cap was original, but have been told that it could be a post war East German cap.
There are no marking on the inside except the owners initials and I think I can make out a very faded eagle and swastika stamp, which also makes me suspicious.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Volunteer fire departments still use this type of cap in some jurisdictions. Their uniforms haven't changed much since the prewar years. Nothing about the cap looks "wrong" to me. The cap badge is good. Yes there were regulations about piping and such but to be honest volunteer firemen didn't care much. They bought their own uniforms and did what they wanted. Most were locally made and didn't follow any particular pattern. I will,say that these brimmed field caps are not that often seen in period photos, at least in my experience.

Value, is not high on these to police collector simply because you can never really be sure of the date used, and because there were so many firemen.

Just my opinion as a police collector. Perhaps the hat gurus are aware of some "tell" on these that I am not aware of.
