A fake cap maker's dream! The rivets are the hardest thing to duplicate on those hats that have them.

Are those rivets made from brass or are they magnetic ?

If brass then they are most likely post war.

If magnetic then they are pre-war and up to 1939.

Either war they are not war time after 1940 and certainly like nothing used on WH or KM tropical caps,

Brass rivets were used in pre war caps

Depends, are we are talking politcal caps or Wehrmacht ?

If political then yes. I have for example, original SA hats with brass grommets and agree that other original political caps/ hats can also have brass examples .

The only WH caps I have ever encountered with brass grommets is the odd M38 officer sidecap. All EM/ NCO caps that I have handled, have had brass/ gold plated magnetic tin, zinc or zinc plated steel grommets.

All tropical caps that I have handled dated from 1940 to 1944 have been zinc or zinc plated steel on the later examples.

Can not say for Police caps/ hats because I have not had enough of them through my hands,

Agree Chris, I only ever encounted brass rivets used in officer continental sidecaps , all of these have been tailored made and you would not expect to see them on a tropical M40

I own a M38 Infantry officer sidecap with brass rivets, while not dated IMO is pre war manufactured
