Agree with Mark, cap is original, but all insignia is re-applied and that poor sweatband. Quite often the grommet washers are appiled backwards by this maker, would like to see the grommets from the inside to see if this is the case ?

Looking at the cockade I can't see anything but machine sewing? The eagle is absolutely re-applied, without doubt...

Thanks, had forgotten that this maker actually used the zig-zag on both the eagle & cockade, so yes you are correct as usual. Also the stitchline through the cockade around the circumference is usually a good sign, though this can be added post war as well (not in this case).
