Well I would say that there appears to be a faint outline of where a bullion eagle used to sit above the metal one that is on there now. We would need some better shots of the badge ect and it was sewn at the same time as the wreath. The wreath shows oxidation while the rest of the cap shows no wear.... makes me think its just all put together from a stripped cap. The cap material is a bit interesting as well in my opinion. Pipping is dark so could be jager or PzGrn... overall im not convinced its been that way since the war by any means. Matt

RD--this same hat was for sale on Spree Militaria for a long time.
IMO, the hat is real, but is Jaeger, and the 116 badge was added after the fact (and may be a repro at that):

I would say the Waffenfarbe is Jäger as well.

The inside is a typical war period cloth ?
Leather seems to be ok for me .

From these pics, IMO it is a 100% untouched original, and exactly what it appears to be. In hand, that could change.

The name and rank match a man in Schutzen Rgt. 3 at the outbreak of the War. In 1942 the unit became Pz. Gren Rgt. 3

That's quite interesting, as both my home computer, and the one in my office show a definite shade of jager green, rather than that of panzergrenadier.

In my experience with collar tabs and shoulder boards on uniforms, some of the the Schutzen units used a green similar to Jager and GJ in the early part of the War.

I would say this is a mid- to late-war cap.
