Tropical side cap introduction

Hello friends, since i never have seen a tropical side cap dated 1940, i'm wondering if it was introducted in the same time of the billed cap or just later...

Alex,
there are tropical sidecaps dated 1940. You will find that the members of Panzer Regiment 5 were issued tropical sidecaps upon arrival in North Africa in 1941. I have only ever seen panzer soutached examples and don't believe that any other branch colour was issued for sidecaps.
I have two used examples in my collection that were manufactured in 1940.
