another M43 cap

I resurrect this thread having personally seen this M43 since I bought it last week. The only issue with this feldmutze is the trap, which has been replaced and this is the reason why I’ve returned it.The signs of the previous trap,i.e. the stitches holes and its “ghost” on the nap along with a few remaining pieces of original thread can still be clearly seen once you check the cap closely with your “Mk XIX eyeball” ?but the cap remains a beautiful one-looker made of a very appealing shade of Italian rough “nettle cloth”.
The wear on the lining is consistent with the wear of the rest of the cap and the pictures posted here don’t do the cap justice at all.
Jean Michel wasn’t aware that this trap was replaced, perhaps because of his (momentarily) limited experience with these caps and that was mainly due to the fact that the insigna had been sewn in a cunning way meant to deceive the untrained eye,i.e.with machine stitches on BOTH sides of the trap but with the actual stitches securing it made by hand and not too well hidden if you ask me.
The trap still retains all of the holes left by old stitches and chances are that it could well be the original, even if nobody could tell for sure.
Anybody looking for a honest M43 should consider this one even if a purist would turn up his nose at the replaced trap.
Best Regards
Lou

I have since then handled these, and made a misstake.
I’ve read your old posts and in the last you made a good point, but I have ‘resurrected’ this thread only to help JM out because,as you rightly pointed out,a hands-on inspection and better pictures sometimes are needed. The cap looked good from the pictures,in spite of their quality, but the insigna had been clearly put on in a cunning way,not easy to be ascertained by a few generic pictures.
