    Steiner, I believe that one is from the DiFillipi (sp?) French book on headgear.

    IMO, the skull was added postwar--it sits too low.
    Also, many do not like these skulls that do not have a septum.

        Cap is original with Totenkopf added later ...when ?
        IMO the eagle is not high enough to have the right place when a Totenkopf is present .
        Death head is original , even without the famous discussed Septum .
        It's a nice zinc one !
        The french former collector De Filippi had this cap in his book on the german caps years ago , you're right !

          I am with Chris. Don't like the scull (there are good discussions on those here on the Waf) and no way a true 17th inf soldier would have worn the insignia overlapping like that. J

              I can confirm, that late war made original Braunschweig zinc skulls without septum existed.

              I have an atelier photo (1945), which shows such a skull, too.
