DAK 1st Model Pith Helmet

Gents,

I am thinking of buying this DAK 1st Model Pith Helmet. To me it looks original but my friend who is selling it said that the Eagle has been placed by the previous owner as it used to be a Wehrmacht variant.

Your opinions would be appreciated

Would listen to your friend, its a Herr helmet with a LW eagle added sometime.

Thank you for your reply Tim. What is giving it away (the inner spikes)? But the rest is original and good?

Would it be worth restoring?

Herr helmets have olive trim, chinstrap etc, LW helmets have tan trim and chinstrap. Not even sure if the eagle is original ? need better photos of it.

If the eagle is bad it would be easy to replace it with a Herr shield.

So the rest of the helmet is fine just the Eagle does not make sense? Plus the eagle itself needs investigation.

I suppose restoring would be worth it in this case because the price I can get it for is good. I would just need a Herr shield.

Nice pith helmet. Yes it is a HEER (Army) model. Wehrmacht equates to all armed forces FYI.

I have my limits and believe the eagle may be an original aluminum example though.

This helmet soon will be in my possession and I will get it restored with an Heer decal. It will be displayed with the Second Model I have.

Hope you enjoy your prospective item. However, it's not far from realistic with the LW eagle. A Heer shield of course much nicer but I personally would use the same holes for the replacement shield and not make additional ones.

Thanks, I do look forward getting it. I will most likely replace the eagle with a Heer Decal. Hopefully I can use the original holes as that would be the best indeed.
