i can only tell you that this cap comes from the collection of ERIC RAYOT ... the author of « au service du troisième reich ».
he used to write his initials in each cap of his collection

Marc, no DLH as such was used during the TR. They did wear then quite different wings. You see it occasionally with a small swastika above the DLH letters. As far as research has learned, no attempts were made before 1945.
The style for the cap was as used after the war!

Hi Wim, Thank you, you confirm my thoughts. I needed some other opinions as the owner, you know him, ;-) still wands to believe the badge is original pre-war or war time ... Could the insignia be "real" but post war ?

Hey Marc,

I have never done research about the DLH as from after the war. But the symbol and cap you show are known as Schirmmütze alter Art from about 1965. The shown symbol shows nice workmanship. Later the symbol was machinewoven or embroidered and is not so great anymore in its look! If the shown patch is okay, I can't tell you as I have never paid attention to material from after 1945.

I have many, many TR photographs from the Lufthansa and you know I wrote a book about them: Deutsche Lufthansa 1926-1945, Geschichte-Bekleidung-Abzeichen. During the many visits in their archives I have never seen the shown symbol as being filed as TR.

Agreed, hat is postwar, and IMO, the insignia (also postwar) was applied to the hat--ie, the hat itself was not originally a DLH hat.
