    Waffen SS NCO Crusher Cap

Jack Pia's book shows a W/SS crusher cap.
Robin Lumsden's book also shows a similar crusher cap.
Any idea how much is this kind of crusher cap in today market( assuming the interior is in perfect condition)?

That particular cap was displayed at one time at the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces in Brussels at Jubilee Park.

In past years I have asked about it in person twice. Unfortunately it is no longer on display and no one there seems to know what happened to it (or where the other excellent SS items have disappeared to).

Anyway, that cap would be quite valuable today IMO. I have never seen another quite like it.

        Mike,
Do you mean the one in Pia's book or Lumsden's book?

I refer to the example from the old Ballantine book by Pia from the '70s. It was even more spectacular in person.

I have asked about it before:

Wondering why this kind of crusher cap seldom offered in auction or dealers' site.

A few guesses: stolen, swapped for scrap, or David Copperfield-ed.

                Kind regard,

                  Hi Mike

I wish I'd known about this earlier. I was at the Brussels museum yesterday only to find the ww2 display closed down to make way for a 1914-18 exhibition....I was talking to an elderly member of staff....could have asked about the crusher...oh well..

                  Regards

                  macleod

Interesting thread and info from Mr. Davis. Does anyone own an original example or have an idea of where some are?

I echo the other's comments. Any original SS crusher is extremely rare and highly desirable so very rarely offered as they are already bought or promised before they change hands. You will see them in all the period photos, but almost never today in person.

SS crushers with both insignia in cloth (or even one of the insignias) are a small fraction of the already rare SS crushers that exist. If you want to talk about a fraction of a fraction try to find a period SS officer's crusher with a velvet or velvet like band.
