LW Officer Crusher by Paul Kaps

Dear all, here is a LW officer crusher/private purchase visor with leather visor by Paul Kaps. Thanks Mike Davis for allowing me to post a thread for discussion purpose. Opinions are welcomed. Sorry that no photographs are pasted here, but you can check out the link at: http://virtualgrenadier.com/sale_item.php?iid=2985
    Thanks in advance.

Sweatband might be a replacement, it's not a typical Paul Kaps band. The description says that the "rear portion may have been re-stitched but this appears to have been done during the war". If you can get a close up photo of the stiching holding the peak on, I should be able to tell if that has also been re-stitched.

By the way, ask Mike if it has a metal spring stitched to the pasteboard.

          Nice crusher!

But why is it marked "Sendker & Hörnig" when it should be Paul Kaps made?
Just curious, I own a Paul Kaps Luftwaffe visor and there You find the Name Kaps in the sweat band as well as in the inside of the top.

I agree with Ben, no typical Paul Kaps sweat band.

Sendker & Hörnig were the Officers clothing store.

Thanks, Ben. I already supposed something like that, but wasn't sure.

Eagle an bullion wing looks also reapplied.
It's a nice cap but include the sweatband has the cap many questions.

Oh gosh. Well, I will try. Why did I describe the cap as a Paul Kaps made? Maybe because the lining is impressed with the Paul Kaps name and logo.

As for the sweatband not being proper, I just report what I see and what I see shows no sign of any postwar molestation. But maybe I've missed something.

                      All looks very neat here.

If I'm not mistaken, sweatband is originally machine sewn - rather dirty 'under there'.

Why did I describe the rear sweatband as being re-stitched? Because it looks that way to me. It also looks like this was not done last week. But that's just me.

I'll try to remember to check the thread again tomorrow to address any other objections that may arise.

                              Thanks Mike.

The reason why the sweatband is in question is because Kaps used very distinctive bands with the name embossed into the leather plus they never had any vent holes in the front. Well, not in my experience anyways..

Having said that, I don't see any evidence that the front portion of the band is anything but machine sewn but it is very dirty under there so see properly.

The rear portion has definitely been re-stitched, but I agree with you that it was done a long time ago and very likely during the period because it all fits with the salty condition of the cap.

I think it's a fantastic cap to be honest. I can just imagine one of the fighter boys with a bit of money to spend being the former owner.
