Unknown hat insignia?

Hello,
I got this in a box of mixed Reichsbahn, Polizei and DRK insignia from a picker in Germany over 20 years ago. I have posted it in various forums here and no one has any idea what it is except to say that with the flat bottom edge it is probably insignia for some type of headgear. Anyone here have any clue?

IMO, it is not TR, more likely BRD. Did you run it by the BRD guys?

Also, check it under a black light for glow.

Unfortunately I still need to get a black light to check that. I ran it through the several other forums with no luck but will try it in the forum you suggest as soon as I can.
