    Artillery Officers Cap with issues...

I've had this cap since I was quite young, I got it in 1986 after seeing it in a junk/secondhand shop window whilst travelling to college on the bus one day. It is lovely quality and has a great shape made by Freidrich Wulfing, Dusseldorf. The cockade looks as though it has never been off the hat, but this is where the issues come in...firstly it has a political eagle! there aren't any obvious impressions of another eagle and this one has been there for a long time, so could it be period or should I replace it???? secondly it has a purpose made grey cotton sweatband as opposed to leather, this has a fair bit of wear to it, there are traces of other thread that have held another sweatband so it has been replaced at some point, but again could it be period, has anyone seen it before???

I have had this cap so long, I don't have any particular axe to grind, but do find it interesting, so opinions please..

I like your cap. It is very possible the changes to the standard configuration are all pre 1945 . I would not change anything on this cap.

You can see many pictures with non regulation eagles on caps ,
for every branches of the army , including party !
No problem to have such a political eagle on a Heer cap.
