      Here is a period photo showing what looks to be a Panzer M42 hat that was upgraded by adding a visor,looks to be the same type of buttons as used on these Panzer M43's.

        I noticed this great looking cap as well; it appears to have the buttons mounted on the opposite side than normal.

            Yes,resin buttons used on that M42 upgrade.

            I would bet his tunic collar liner buttons,bandage pocket and sleeve closures are using the same type.
