Is anything known about the history of this cap? Given Knittels post-war history it is unlikely that it survived.

The seller only said that the visor was given by Knittel to his neighbour, who is now selling this cap.

I don't think the nco cap belonged to Knittel but apparently Knittel jr verified in a letter to the owner that the writing in the pre-war nco cap is in his fathers hand.

That does not explain how a cap, that isn't present in any of the pictures of Knittel taken before and during the war, would suddenly show up in the Ardennes, outside the sector Schnelle Gruppe Knittel operated in. There is no logical reason why Knittel, who was extensively photographed and filmed during the offensive wearing an M43 cap, would also bring an at least six years old nco cap with him. I didn't ask Knittel jr about the nco cap myself because for me it is nolonger an issue.

I did ask Knittel jr about the officers visor in this topic but he doesn't know the visor or its history. He did confirm that the awards and Ehrendegen that were on sale through Andreas Thies do originate from his family. He thinks they were burried in the garden of the family home in 1945 and he sold them some years ago.
