The cover doesn't look good. Most noticeably is the lack of any trace of spiral weaving beginning with the center tab and weaving outward. Now, your cover will probably have it (virtually all old berets do), but you will have to look very hard for it, most likely shining a bright light under it. The original Schutzmutze cover has that weaving, but is much much more readily apparent, even without looking at it through bright light. The fabric of the original covers also tends to be very light and this one looks thicker/heavier than that. I'll also add here that the ones I've owned or seen have hand sewn insignia. The machine stitching on this one, along the top of eagle, looks very sloppy. Here's a link which may prove instructive:

As for the lining, the Lubstein tag is good, but I can't figure out why the six rubber vents would have been cut out. I've never see that before -- though that certainly isn't a deal breaker. What does bother me about the lining is the sweatband- it's not leather colored- even allowing for sweat stains, age, etc. It looks gray as the Bundeswher beret liner sweatbands from the 1960 or so.
In short, I have misgivings about this piece, especially the cover.
