No, not common. Quite rare in fact.
But unfortunately it doesn't raise the value at all.

Robert, I believe your cap to be a rebadged early post-war Polizei.

It sure could be. The link in the thread I posted showed a cap identical to mine for discussion; no concensus was reached on it. I'll check the pasteboard band tonight for holes from police insignia - should be an easy check to see if soemthing was there before, or if the early style wreath has been there for any length of time.

The air vents the moths created actually decrease the value. Nice variation though.

I really appreciate everyone's input on this one. I know the vents (moth holes) will bring down the value...any ideas on value? What would you pay for it? Thanks again!

According to the book on German Army Uniforms & Insignia 1933 to 1945 by Brian L. Davis in the Portrait being shown the soldier is wearing Armored Pioneer (Pionier Panzerzug) shoulder straps with white piping that was only worn a short time in 1940. I believe the piping around the cap is Pioneer and it definitely has two vents but not the same type of vents as shown on the cap being discussed instead they appear to be the same as those on the cap presented by RobertE...also he may be wearing Panzer collar tabs. What a mixture.

Bill, agreed--the air vents shown on the visor that led off this thread are common to TR Police EM/NCO visors (and Shakos)
