Luftwaffe M43 Cap - is the eagle original?

I would sincerely appreciate any opinions as to whether the replacement Luftwaffe eagle is original on this original M43 cap. The eagle is hand-sewn on and appears to be a replacement eagle. Is the eagle original? Thanks.

I believe not. A large number of original stripped LW caps turned up in Europe in the 60s which were purchased wholesale by a US dealer. Without the large number of original insignia required to restore them, he had them made up. I remember hearing this from a "reliable source". These insignias can be readily recognized by the darkish feltlike blue backing.

      Interesting information OSS.

This eagle exhibits poor and incorrect details as well.

I recall Globe Militaria having unissued Luftwaffe M-43s for $5 as well as cased EK 1s for the same price in almost endless supply in the early-mid 1960s. Can't recall the appearance of the eagles but these were likely the ones which are being noted.

Ah Globe Militaria, now those were the days! My dad and I used to visit that place, as well as others in the tri-state area. Memories......

Who will ever forget the wonderful use of terminology:-

            "Mint, unissued".

Got some great stuff from Globe.

            As you say: "Memories"
