    Thanks rove,

it still looks to be a factory applied soutache using a machine stitch.

Why do you say it is hand sewn ?

      only a suppose of me.
but does the points of discussion really influence the fact, that this cap is a minty original. i am curious which new facts are keep this thread running

      a) its not textbook... - experience shows that about 50 % of army equipment not textbook... war made it necessary to improve.
      b) material, eagle, cocarde - original, sewn by hand or machine... complete unimportant for a decision.
      c) Paspellierung (german word) is by order of okh since 42 not to show. but as i read in threads before and in my own experience... between order and reality at frontline was a big difference.

so - for me under the line - not really one fact in this thread gave reason to doubt in this minty cap
      thanks for discussion

          rove,

the soutache being a factory applied original that is machine stitched is more important in the understanding of this cap than you are giving it credit for.

This is a point that fakers often gets wrong. Also increasingly it shows that the cap is not mucked around with and left the factory like that.

I agree there is every chance that the badges are also original to the cap. If anyone had seen this maker before then we would know what their footprint in regard to badge application was. However, until we see another untouched cap by this maker, we can only judge the points that we can study on your cap.

So far the more I see, the more I like

          Chris

Yes, soutache appliation on "Hans Brandt" tropical sidecaps during august 1942 illustrates how this order began to be taken in consideration by this manufacturer during this month; some of those sidecaps dated 08 42 had a soutache applied in factory, some had a soutache removed later, and some never had a soutache applied.
But soutache was not factory applied on those sidecaps in september 1942 or later.
There was certainly a "gray" period, during september 1942 and even in october, for some others manufacturers.
The official order of september 8th, 1942 (HM, Ziff 796) asked the removal of all soutaches on sidecaps already issued and worn, to clarify the situation as soutache was already supposed not to be applied anymore or removed on every sidecaps (like the one wich started this thread) by order of july 10th, 1942 (HM, Ziff 597), with imediate effect in factories on new made sidecaps.
To conclude, except if the stamp indicates the month of mfg in 1942, like Clemens Wagner for instance, a standart feldgrau sidecap dated 1942 with a soutache is believable regarding this point of official regs about soutache removal.
It should be added that with the adoption of the new feldmütze july 21, 1942, the "need" of soutache was not supposed to continue to be a problem anymore on standart M35 feldgrau wool sidecaps, as their manufacturing ceased; those already made were delivered (with soutache removed), running contracts continued untill their end (normaly no soutache applied anymore in factories), but new contracts for their production were not reconducted.
