Does anyone REALLY believe most of these prices are genuine and legitimate?

Personally, I feel much mendacity and deception is at hand behind so many of them . . . but even at that, it is still entertaining to watch.

My initial thought regarding this cap is that it is overpriced, but if the rest of the cap looks as good as these photos, then I have to reconsider.
First, it's a minor miracle that it hasn't been "upgraded" to an officer's cap.
Then I thought of a comparison to the collector car market, where you sometimes see an auction result for a vehicle that is well above the various price guides. This is almost always because the vehicle 's condition and provenance is well above the norm, thus justifying the well above average price.
Methinks this cap's price is a reflection of it's condition, and likely rarity of such a high quality enlisted version.

Bob - couldn't agree more. I for one, definitely look at condition as my #1 buying point. You then have to think, "where might I find another visor in the condition as this one even thought the price tag is a little more than I wanted to pay." For me it all evens out over time and you still have a collection of fine and moth free Schirmmutzen of a specific historical time.

The hat had 8 things going for it:

1.condition
2. condition
3, condition
4. pre-war quality in doeskin
5. It is an Erel
6 It is vented
7. It is a Panzer
8. It is an EM/NCO that was not "promoted" to Officer postwar.

This would have been a standout visor at any show.
Congrats to the new owner.
