    MAX Show for Cloth Headgear

I have not been back in 5 years and it does not seem like I am missing anything. Everyone I talk to says that decent visors were literally non-existent (aside from the travelling museums).

From what I hear (as I usually do every year) all the "good" stuff was sold during dealer set-up on Thursday, and that dealers were already closing down their tables on Fri nite/Sat morning.

Maybe to ensure its survival, they should just have the show on 1 day (a Saturday so we do not have to miss work), and make that day dealer set-up day as well?

I agree! Set up Friday, show on Saturday. It makes no sense the way it operates now. Dealers are pissed and so is the public. Jim

Absolutely agreed with Chris. It's a shame.

Well, this is what I saw on Friday, while ignoring the traveling museums and "superstar" dealers as much as possible:

                  - Very nice EREL Luftwaffe Medical enlisted cap, I came close, but passed.
                  - Erel Gebirgsjager Officer cap, with a few moth nips; the repaired, not-quite up to standards interior caused me to pass, although I almost bought it, given the very low price.
                  - Luxus Cavalry officer cap, w/bullion insignia. good price, but I was leery of the Luxus brand.
Pekuro Pionier officer cap with a minty interior, but too many moth bites on the exterior, and the seller wouldn't budge on price.
Nice Weimar era pink-piped enlisted cap, but not priced to attract me.
Quite a few Luftwaffe officer caps; no bargains that I saw.
Finally, a minty Berolina Signals officer that I DID buy, well below "market price". I'll try to have photos up soon.
Overall, IMHO, not a lot to choose outside of the "big boys", as far as cloth headgear goes. Very few Imperial peaked caps that I saw, and was searching for.
No question that the MAX is not the show that the SOS is. I will continue to attend, since I live 25 miles from Monroeville, and it's a tradition to me going back over 20 years.
I'm always curious about the big dealers; do they actually SELL any of those caps that are out of reach behind the table?

As for the "big boys " just look at the max program and you will see photos of items from the previous years show, and sure enough, they are present at the current show! My specific reference is the white topped visor misidentified in this years program as a luft summer visor, it is to be found on Brian M s vast array of tables , I think it may be a customs visor, but correct me if I'm wrong.
I went Thursday and Friday, and had luck selling some items to a dealer in the back room and got a great deal on some kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe rank lists, actually at half of what the asking price was for both books, thanks don wood!

In general, I would say that the show was a disapointment in terms of uniform items in general, but like many, I only looked at the big-name dealers out of morbid curiousity.

Too bad, but the estand has had lots of nice thing but there is a failure to buy. Just my two cents.

I agree, but I do notice that eStand prices are sometimes very close to or higher than the prices I saw at the Max. I think everyone is dealing with the economic realities of the times right now - even very nice "common" items are not moving at the prices they commanded pre-2008.

                              Don,

Your last statement about looking at big name dealers items out of morbid curiosity so nicely sums that up. It is to the point where you don't even bother asking what the price may be and even looking at them is last on the list.
