    Heer Afrika Korps DAK cap

    Hello all,

I know this is not a traditional tropical hat and may be a private purchase/tailor made example. If anyone can please provide any additional information I would appreciate it. Additionally, the rivets are not all the same either. This came from the Estate of the deceased and I kept a copy of the obituary.

    Inside the cap is written:

    (souvenir)
    property of
    (illegible)
    Captain Zickfoose
(word under the seam is also illegible to me)

just thought I would share and feel free to comment if you'd like!

    William Kramer

It does look like a Luftwaffe cap.

I agree....most likely a LW converted, I once had a very similiar LW cap identified to the H. Goering Division.... guy was Army transferred into the HG Div., so he converted his eagles in a similiar fashion.... sold it to George Peterson when he was buying anything Luftw. or Tropical, etc. () many years ago....

                      Hi William,,

I like it ,, I also think it has a good chance of being a LW conversion..
I wouldn't be concerned with the different rivets, doing conversions you would just use what you had on hand to finish the job... Nice shape & eagle ...

                      Cheers
                      Paul ..

Interesting cap, though while I think it is likely period made, I lean away from it being Luftwaffe but rather field/theater made. Firstly, the Luftwaffe did not officially make an M-40 cap nor does this material look exactly like any Luft. tropical material with which I am familiar. Of course, since many Luft. M-40s were small batch local production, anything is possible.

While it might be an original field made cap, am pretty doubtful. Its 50/50 at best. No-one can say for sure. Maybe he picked it up in Alaska which would explain a few things....
