    M43 Luftwaffe cap 1944

    Hi,

Just bought this one and think it's a nice one.
There is still a faint shadow visible from an edelweiss and also some loose thread.
The insignia doens't pertrude the linning and is clearly handsewn.

What do you guys think, thanks in advance

    Kind regards,
    Harald

          Hi Glenn,

Yes it was also my first thouht, but when you look at the linning there is no sign of any thread that goes true. Also the edelweiss that has been removed seemes to have been sewn with the same thread.

One of the front buttons has been replaced with an army one so this one certainly has been used, also the neckcover has been sewn on to the side of the cap.

          Kind regards,
          Harald

This is how I would expect the insignia to be sewn from this maker.

              Hi Glenn,

Yes indeed, you are right I have it in hands and probably the insignia is replaced.
Still very happy with it, found it today at a local flea market underneath the table

              Kind regards,
              Harald

Nice original cap with the proper insignia for this maker but as Glenn mention it has been replaced
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

Thanks alot guys for the expertise, I also had the gut feeling that the insignia had been replaced, you guys confirmed .

The edelweiss could have been there if I understand correctly there were luftwaffe gebirgsjäger units.

                        Kind regards,
                        Harald

As Glenn mentioned I would only want to see this type of insignia application by this maker as well.

Yes it could have, although of course these where not actual Gebirgsjäger. Initially LW Flak units etc that where stationed in mountain areas where issued the so called Bergmutze with single button. Later photos show the Edelweiss sometimes being worn by such units when wearing a M43 cap (and also on the Bergmutze for that matter). This was a personal choice.
