what is this extra eagle on a field cap?

What is the small eagle visible on this man's cap? I have seen it before, but cant remember what type of eagle it is, nor its significance.

Thansk for the info. Were any grenadier units allowed to wear it? This copy of a photo was sent to me by a family, and the soldier was in a grenadier regiment... Perhaps they sent a photo of the wrng brother? I have seen that happen before.

I think that the 6 Reiter-Regiment and Kradschützen-Battalion 3 was authorized to wear and may have been others.
