Well, most of us make mistakes and here are a few photos of one of mine. I bought this cap from Manions' in the late '80s or early '90s. (Believe it or not, one could get some great stuff from them in those days.) Anyway, there has been at least one other thread where caps of this type, now believed to be clever and nicely made copies, were discussed. What would be a fair price for something like this today?

Mike,
Construction very similar indeed to this one - http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...m40+discussion
The grommets on yours appear enamelled(?) but the crimping looks like they've been 're-applied'.
I'd like to see under the sweatband at those details...the overall appearance of yours is very convincing.
I've seen the example fake I've posted sell for around $500.
Regards,
Mark

Fake M40
Janke make an excellent repo, both EM and Officers
Almost identical to an original and sell for $100 us approx
Main flaw is eyelets
German eBay also has some extremely well made copies that sell about 80 euro
IMO, If you going to spend $500, put towards an original cap rather than waste it on a fake
