Looks like an Italian made m-43 cap
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

I think it is but the lining looks different from others I have seen so not sure, most likely replaced buttons if it is.

I think there are a few posted on the forum with this type of liner and metal buttons looks like an original with machine sewn insignias

At the bottom of the cap is badly visible oval stamp. There is a date 1943 in the center of the stamp. The cap has a strong smell of an old thing from the trunk.

imho the cap is washed/clean the type diamond ink stamp
(never seen before) not is common for the italian factory ink stamps.

"six italians, dressed in rather unusual diving suits and equipped with materials of laughably little cost have swung the military balance of power in the Mediterranean in favour of the Axis".
