Interesting.Here is a green example posted a while ago.
Looks similar to your example.
Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of WSS M40 sidecaps with the RbNr code.

While Rb or Rf is not the norm for SS..I think yours has potential...insignia from fotos to me looks OK..discolored from (vet) smokers house ?? Billbert

Cap is also very faded. I believe you may be correct about the nicotine color of the insignia
