Why did the M42 cap seem not very popular in wear in that time?

i would like to know WHY the M42 cap seems that it is not very popular in wear in that time?
not very often to see in fotos.

IMHO, I don't think it was a matter of popularity but rather due to short period of production and the time it was introduced.

Its out there in fotos more than you d think...the cap with a bill M43 wins first prize for versatility...from the bergmutze and M40 tropical cap..Billbert
