My feelings are this: its a "Frankenstein" made using some original parts. C. Louis Weber did make some "contract quality" caps for civil organizations, and I believe this is where the lining and sweatband (note its been re-positioned and re-attached) came from. Private purchase C. Louis Weber caps, which an SS cap would HAVE to be, are of much better quality of materials and construction, and do not use this type of lining material...

Sweatband looks replaced or at least re-sewn.

                    Endeed Gentlemen,

To be honnest I know this cap since around 25 years... (I'm not the owner)
Originaly comes from a big collection in Paris and endeed the sweatband could be restaured, regarding the bad condition on one end...

The center band is indeed black and not dark green

I the case this is a "Franki" and former WH cavalerie

                    Than I have any questions:

                    - where are the former WH oakleaf crown pin holes left and right of the skull ?
                    - Where are the stichings below the bottom edge piping ?
                    - the "political" chinstrap seem also perfectly matching

But I'm still learning, and every day I'm reading a new very good explanation why this or that turns into a fake...
(sorry te be a little sarcastic... But I'm really tired that every time that it appears a color piped W-SS cap, even in accordance with the authenticity criteria described on this forum, it still remains a fake...).

OK it's true... 90% of them are fakes... But here I think it's really impotant to know a real good reason and not only to "brake" the item...

If it's a fake, so it's an early 80th fake...

But as said, let us learn

                    Thanks you very much

                    Regards
                    Pascal.

Pascal, if someone is going to go to the lengths of dismantling a cap to its elements to make up a "Frankenstein" by replacing the band and lining, then they will simply replace the pasteboard as well. Also, I don't think this was ever a C.Louis Weber Heer cavalry cap- I think only the lining and sweatband are their products. The exterior elements, IMO, have come from elsewhere...

PS. Is the true circumference of the inside 59cms?

Unfortunately, just about every color-piped SS cap we see today started out with something like this:

Thanks a lot for this additional information !

and this kind of fakes exists since the early 80 th ? or perhaps already before ?
