        size mark , grommets

size mark is a 57 ( no other marks are visible ) maybe the font could help experts to figure out the maker, grommets are not the common ones

Sadly that's happened more than a few times.. Again nothing IMHO wrong with those caps.. I think the cap I saw in 1978 at a big time dealers back then was 35/40 bucks tops..Billbert

I too believe this cap to be 100% original. Just not what am used to seeing. Thanks for showing

I have seen a whole bundle of these tropical sidecaps with double grommets on each side. They were from the "Beehive" find and still with soutache. All still tied together with cloth tape. 101% period and original

                      Hello Tim,

someone like member "Italianwarfront" put up a whole lot of tropical sidecaps for sale on the estand sometime between 2001 and 2005. I kept images of each maker and there were several. Sadly, they were lost in a computer crash.

Anyway there was a thread started at that time about the "Beehive" find. Various members added images of what they had or had seen. One member put up images of the bundles of caps still tied together. The 4 grommet sidecaps were among the ones for sale on the estand and in the bundles.

Perhaps someone else reading this still has the images or a link to the older thread. I did a search but can not find the old threads about the "Beehive" finds any longer. I hope they are not lost forever,

                      Chris

p.s. from memory, I think the 4 grommet trop. sidecaps were the early type of jager/ apple green of the early war light infantry/ specialist trained units before the PG lime green but there may have also been artillery red which is another rare soutache to find in the Beehive examples.

Thanks for info. That sounds like the second "release" of the 1st beehive cache. These caps had been held for almost 30 years since the discovery.
Those were all originals if i remember. But around the same time the 2nd beehive (railroad car) batch was also "released" from another source which was mainly made up of the HB 842's and 1142's with post War added soutache. so the timing is interesting.

The original beehive thread sounds interesting perhaps it can be found agian ?

lately I've seen in person 2 of those bundles : 6 Panzer caps which were sold by his site 4/5 yrs ago ... easily CW ... and 6 Transport not sure if still available ( CW or HB ) but most important they were all classic 2 grommets model

                            Paolo,

I don't think this is the one I sold you years ago, believe mine had just a single grommet but hey I wouldn't have any issues with this one coming my way. Matt
