These fakes may have contributed to the false assumption that CW did not make the tropical M40, (rumour started in mid 80's) & that CW only made the tropical sidecaps (many of which were in the beehive cache). However it has been proven to be false. CW produced the tropical M40 in both of its factory's in Hamburg & Braunschweig.
