    M43 cap vent holes

    I posted this in the wrong forum and will try and get the mods to remove it. I would like to know which M43 caps are supposed to have the air vent holes in them and which shouldn't? I always assumed that the Gebirgsjäger Bergmütze
    was supposed to have the vent holes. But now I am seeing non-Gebirgsjäger Bergmütze M43 caps that are supposedly authentic that have the vent holes.
    Help!!!

    vents

    Other than Bergmuetzen the only other time I expect to see vent grommets in an issue enlisted "M-43" cap is when an M-42 cap has been converted (had a bill added to it) to be an "M-43". Only one person's opinion.

      I would like for this conversation to be re-upped. I just traded for an M43 Schutzpolizei which has vent holes. I'll try to get some pics posted tomorrow.

        There are exceptions to every rule. Have a look at these 101% factory made M43's with grommets;

          Billed field caps but technically, not m-43s imo.

                I have a Vienna made Pz M43 with single grommets and I have seen studio pics wearing grommeted M43s.

                  Yes, I have held one of those caps in my hands. They are both original W-SS field caps, just not technically M-43s. The SS did make "M-43s" however without grommits.

                    I should mention that the Luftwaffe also made fieldcaps in this pattern (single button with and without grommits), many dated '42, essentially predating and preceding the M-43.

                      I didn't wan to throw this one in the middle of all the SS talk on the other thread. Figured I'd post here. I've heard opinions that some of the side caps were converted to have a bill. Wondering if this may possibly be one of them.

                        Off subject a little but two weeks ago we were lucky enough to speak with a Vet of the 7th SS Prinz Eugen. He spoke of his times as a soldier and as a prisoner of war. Fred is the author of the Baltic Nightmare. But he had a SB M43 with the TK, he also said that he wore the M43 with the SD on the front. Fred is 88 years old and we sat around a table in Canada for 5 hours just talking, it was truly amazing.

                          I think my photos didn't come through. Here's another attempt.

                            I am not disagreeing with you. Just interested to learn more if we can find out or see more examples of such caps,
