Not so sure about the Gendarmerie identification. As Stonemint points out the white trim on the band in place of green, which is actually typical of traffic police white visors. Is the piping actually red on this visor, check closely please and let us know. Also note the massive/solid eagle on the metal insignia.

Thought the same, but piping looks Gend. orange to me. One would expect the band to be lighter brown for Gend. however.

Yes Bilbert is correct. A very well known maker of tropical caps.

Dreßen is the company name and Rheydt is the city. By the way the same city Joseph Goebbels was born and grew up.
