That's a beauty Chris. Did earlier EREL's come with standard metal insignia unless it was specially ordered by the purchaser?

The early EREL's had very often aluminium eagles, and the latewar (around 1944-45) had often zink eagles and corcades.

Kogy, imho, all Erel Heer Kleiderkasse visors came with metal insignia--the officers would later have the cockades removed and replaced by bullion wreaths.

However, some of these M-45 Erels do have factory installed bullion cockades. Go figure.

How about those non-Kleiderkasse, "private purchase" (in a truer sense) ones? Just wondering if these caps sat on the shelf of the EREL/distributor stores naked without any insignia, waiting for the potential purchaser to walk in to decide what kind of insignia they want on the cap? Plausible?
