Can there be some more explanation please? Is it a plane fake then and what gives it away as a fake?

It is an easy fake. Bad lining, markings, construction to start.

Hello Stijn,

In my opinion the images are too small or not clear enough to make a call.

A red lining in a LW billed tropical M41 is both very rare and unusual. Having said this and based on what little I can see, the lining on the one that you have posted could be made of the correct linen. Also keep in mind that The LW seem to have had quite a variety of manufactured/ field made types of this cap depending on where they were sourced from at the time and by who.

My advise would be to PM John Hodgin and double check this one. He will soon give you an objective opinion or may be he might even see this and post. It is most likely not a good one but it is best to be sure.

Sorry for the late response, have been away and not on line much.

For starters, the eagle on the cap is certainly a reproduction. Better photos would be more helpful, but so far agree with Ian.
