medical officer viwsor cap Erel in mint condition

Yesterday I have got this very nice Erel visor cap. Very interesting is the sewing. I have not seen before on Erel caps.

Beautiful shape! The sweatband does look bit weird though, does it have the EREL Stirnschutz marking on it? Apparently not? Also the lack of "reed core" near the zig-zag where the sweatband is attached is a first for me on an EREL.

I agree. The sweatband does not have Erel characteristics. At least none that I am familiar with.<O</O

the sweatband has not the erel marking but that´s no reason to have doubt. Let´s see what other members think about.

                  Hi Casey,

I have no doubts about your cap. It looks beautiful...I only stated that I am unfamiliar with this type of sweatband in an Erel.

Hat looks great, but imho, the sweatband was professionally replaced during the war.

                      Chris,

Thanks for the input, but why do you suppose the sweatband was replaced?

Mark, could have been that it was one of those paper Erel sweatbands--those things were fragile even back then--I don't know why Erel even put them on their caps.

Here is the end result of wear of one of these paper sweatbanded Erels. The problem is that there are simply too many holes in them for structural integrity:

Chris, when did the ersatz sweatband start appearing on Erels?
