    SS Overseas Cap Opinions

    Hello,

Would like to hear any opinions about this cap. Insignia is metal wire. The TK has the hem thread running through the top and bottom of it suggesting the insignia was attached before the cap was complete. Wool is a dark green, liner feels like rayon.

    Thanks in advance!

I pretty much figured the insignia was bad when I found a very similar set for sale at on line for under $10. in bevo. Sad, the guy I posted this for spent a pretty penny on it. Maybe the wool would be good for patch work??

All i can tell you is buy reference books, go through all the threads here, whats the point of this forum and all the collectors that post thousands of pics & disussions of original W-SS headgear if you dont go through those threads and you will never ever ask such questions again, btw, ugliest repro i have ever seen

I guess the point is to post as many examples of fakes and originals as possible so people can see the different techniques employed by the nuckleheads out there makeing antiques. People who have never handled one of these, and there are a lot of collectors out there who haven't but think they have, will get excited because someone stitched the hem line over the insignia and used a rayon type liner and added the rbn# and/or beat the exterior with an oily chain to produce that oh so aged look, used real parts etc. Unfortunatly the owner of this hat brought me it and ten visors/helmets to examine; all were doctored up or flat out fake and I know it cost him big time. That is really too bad, for him and this hobby.

This hat may have been made by www.gd43.com

I have a hat VERY similar to this for reenacting purposes.
