We can begin with the fact that the ALMI stamp is incorrect.

This cap looks remarkably like the "Ankenbrand & Klaue" tropical field cap which was discussed recently here. A new generation fake IMO.

Fake for sure, an accurate one but still fake.

I have no idea why but some of the Trop cap fakes are dangerously good. This one, not so much so.

Did "ALMI" ever make tropical M40's ? I can not recall ever seeing an original example by them.

Makers name aside, there are several points which give this cap away as being a reproduction,

Indeed, just one of the 'problems' with the cap which I pointed out to those who emailed me after Peter's update.
I can't understand why this wasn't vetted more carefully.
Still - bad pieces slip past all dealers and Peter has rectified the situation.

Hi Chris,

To your first point, not to my knowledge. They produced a lot of caps for the Luftwaffe though.

To your second, there certainly is more, grommets, sewing details, construction.

Peter is a stand up guy, it pays to ask questions......
