The "Holy Grail" -- Wehrmachtpfarrer Knautschmütze

I wanted to share one of my latest finds with you. Never thought I'd actually ever be able to find an unquestionable Wehrmacht Chaplain's piece of headgear, especially not a crusher.

This came through a friend who received it directly from the son of the Wehrmachtpfarrer with tons of uniform items (even a nice visor cap), photo albums and all his documents. Since the crusher is rather faded and doesn't match the condition of the rest of the items, he was kind enough to let it go to me. I am still VERY grateful...

At first I thought it was redyed Infantry (which would have been OK for me knowing the provenance) but in hand it turned out that this crusher was actually produced as a Chaplain's crusher. When it was found, the BeVO eagle was missing but the cross was still intact.

Since this Chaplain served with a Gebirgsjäger unit, he wore a Bergmütze with the cross in most photos & there only was one blurry shot of him wearing his crusher. Still, better than nothing... enjoy the pics!

    Kurt

It's too bad that Chaplain's purple likes to fade like Transport blue

Here a comparison with a Medical officer's side cap.

Here is a blurry photo of the cap in wear... if you look at the pattern of the wreath's attachment, you can see that it's probably the same cap (I'd assume he had only one crusher).

Billbert, the chin cords are actually also still there, I just didn't add them for the pics. Those buttons are sewn on there and it's so horribly done that I'm pretty positive it's a field modification ... Kurt
