DAK Panzer Caps

This group looks like it all came from a panzer kaserne. All from one veteran too! The panzer caps look like they are cut from two different shades of fabric, though they both have the same year and maker stamping.

This is the second and third DAK / tropical headgear I got in three weeks - a nice run!

Great caps! They look to be of sturdier material, as most early production was.

They feel almost like a canvas, but not much different than a 1st model tropical tunic.

Carl Halfar's were actually issued to DAK panzer troops unlike the many beehive hoard caps that are seen.

Great caps - both Halfar's?
The twill quality is very evident from the photos - I like the lighter coloured example, personally. Any evidence of wear (internally) on each cap?
Like tunics, caps were produced in many 'weight' twills in 1940/41. I've seen/owned m40's and side-caps manufactured in extremely thick to extremely thin cotton, and even a canvas in one case (a 1941 Lubstein m40).
Love the Halfar insignia stitching - built to last.

Outstanding ! These are the real deal As Mark pointed out, Halfar was one of the original "big six" used in Afrika.

I'll post more pictures tomorrow, but they are both marked identically - other than the color, these look identical.

These are stiff canvas - they don't feel anything like a later version of the tropical cap. It's neat they are associated with the DAK issued gear.

Hi Robert,
I understand what you mean - these would appear un-issued(?) so the twill (not canvas) retains it's factory 'bullet proofing' which gives it that stiffness.

Here's some more pictures to illustrate the shade differences and manufacturing similarities. The vet brought two caps back, one for a sister and one for another local girl, and wrote the names for each in the caps.
