Army Officers Visor - turned SS!

I bought an infantry army officers cap from a fellow that had a small collection. Originally, the cap had a veteran's breast eagle stuck on the front, and the seller removed it since I had a nice army eagle that matched the aluminum wreath / cockade.

I am shocked to say I don't need to replace the army eagle - I think I might have to replace BOTH insignias! The dark green band was a little darker than I thought.

    Anyway, here's the cap.

    regards, Robert

          Robert--

What is the band material--black wool or velvet?
What is the color of the piping--is it white?
Is the wool body a field gray, or does it have a bluish tint to it?
Lastly, can you remove the WH wreath to see the holes/imprint under it?

The band is black velvet, with white piping. I have an RLB gaberdine officers visor, and this is definately field grey when compared side-by-side. The RLB also has silver piping, not white - just joking on it being from that organization.

There was an imprint of a skull under the wreath, with two holes for the TK mounting prongs.

            I think it's SS!

I only had some pictures to go by, and it looked like a very nice infantry cap, which I had been looking for. When I got the box today, it was a very nice surpise. I knew the vet eagle had been added, but I didn't consider the wreath didn't belong there either. No markings under the sweatband, but this number is present.

The wreath came right off, and the skull slipped over the impression from where the skull had been; the prongs lined up perfectly in the old holes. I'll post the cap later tonight - I still can't believe my luck!

                    regards, Robert

Thank you guys. It seems that it's usually the reverse: Army stuff that's been converted to SS.

The sweatshield appears to be unmarked, and other than that odd number in the sweatband, I don't see any markings.

I guess i just got lucky on this one!

                              regards, Robert
